While driving to Ahtirappilly itself is an experience, driving through loops and dipping through thick forested areas, small streams, and glimpsed hill ranges in the distance. It's one of those drives where you roll down the window, breathe in fresh air, and feel lighter immediately.

On the route to Vazhachal, you will find another waterfall, Charpa Falls. It's comparatively small but just as lovely. In monsoons, water cascading from Charpa Falls often pours onto the road.

• Monsoon (June to September): The best time for full-feast attractions with earth-shattering waterfalls, but pathways are very slippery. So carry rain protection. 

•  Post-Monsoon (October to February): Cool weather yet with a full fall, this is a very good time for photographers. 

• Summer (March to May): Water still flowing in reduced volumes; it becomes yet a great peaceful getaway from the noises of the cities.
