In all probability, this is the playground that someone would find most entertaining if they had to imagine how people lived in centuries past. According to archaeologists, this area forms a region that was related to some ancient settlements dating back to the Mauryan and Kushan periods. The Assandh Stupa, the most significant landmark of the site, is thought to date back to the early centuries of the Common Era. And indeed, this is not just a pile of bricks but a reminder of the time when Buddhism flourished over northern India. This stupa would have served as a place for meditation for the monks, a gathering ground for the pilgrims, and a meeting place for the stories of the Buddha's teachings.

Made of baked bricks, the structure rises to about 25 m and has a diameter of roughly 50 m. When you see it up close, face to face, you will see that it has wear and tear-the chips, cracks, and missing bricks-but still high stands, as though time itself pays regard to it.

Assandh welcomes visitors throughout the year, but cooler months of October to March are best for this trip. Summers in Haryana are sweltering, with temperatures often soaring above 40°C (104°F). The soft mist of winter mornings, soaked in golden sunlight, is perfect for a walk around the stupa and the countryside.
